Episode Analytics – More Than Just Bundled Payments 
Overview
Episodes of care represent up to 75% of a health plans spending and provide an industry accepted context for understanding and comparing health plan costs and provider clinical performance. As a result, the analytics supporting episode of care programs are now being leveraged for more than just value-based payments and are helping health plans enhance network design, enable consumer engagement, support provider performance reporting and much more.

In this session, Marc Berg, McKinsey & Company, will share the potential for episode analytics and highlight some of the many ways health plans leverage this intelligence to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare. Chris Simpkins, Change Healthcare will then share examples of the episode of care data visualizations being using by health plans to identify opportunities across their businesses to improve costs and care quality.

  Partner with more than 20 years of experience serving health care providers, payers and governments to improve operational efficiency and the outcome of care. Marc is Partner at McKinsey & Company and is a recognized innovative leader in value-based contracting, cost- and outcomes measurement, and payment reform and has pioneered several data and analytical services to support state and national governments to achieve these aims. He has led a wide range of large scale private and public-sector engagements.

  Christopher [Chris] Simpkins is the Vice President of Analytics at Change Healthcare, where he sets the vision/direction and leads the organization's Value Based Payment (VBP) data analytics strategy. He leads a team of analytics professionals who advise clients on how to harness their data to improve the results of their VBP programs.

Chris has over 25 years of experience in leading analytic organizations in the healthcare industry. Prior to joining HealthQx®, Chris held leadership roles with Accolade Inc., Independence Blue Cross, and Aetna. Those roles focused on turning data into actionable insights and fostering a culture of data-driven decision making. Chris earned his undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science from Penn State and MBA in Finance and Health Care Management from the Wharton School of Business.
