|Private Exchange Trends - 2016 and Beyond | PwC Research and Insights|
insurance exchanges continue to gain currency as a way for employers
achieve a combination of three goals: (1) to obtain
health care cost savings, (2) to reduce their administrative burden, and
(3) to provide improved benefit choices and experience to their covered
employee or retiree populations. While various aspects and approaches
with private exchanges are still evolving, a growing body of research is
becoming available on employer perspectives regarding private exchanges
and emerging experiences from early adopters.
Private exchanges can provide the technology platforms to integrate and improve many of the cost savings strategies employers are considering. Initially, exchanges focused on plan selection during open enrollment through decision support tools. But now, private exchanges are evolving, and are expanding capabilities to help guide employees through treatment options and on-going wellness initiatives. The end result is exchanges looking to engage employees and drive behavior change. Going forward, private exchanges' ability to bend the cost curve
will drive their growth projections.
