Heather Khan RN, MBA
Vice President of Patient Care Services/Chief Nurse Executive, Norwegian American Hospital 

Heather Khan is Vice President of Patient Care Services/Chief Nurse Executive at 185-bed Norwegian American Hospital in Chicago. She previously served as Administrator, Clinical Operations at Beaumont Wayne Hospital in Wayne, Mich. and Stroke Program Coordinator at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital in Bloomfield Township, Mich. 

Prior to that, she spent 20 years as a nurse and nurse manager with Aurora Sinai Medical Center and Brown County Hospital in Wisconsin. She earned a master’s degree in business administration from Cardinal Stritch University and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the Berlin College of Nursing.

Gabrielle Sauder, DNP, MSN, PNP-BC
Associate Vice President, Clinic and Community Operations, Norwegian American Hospital 

Gabrielle is Associate Vice President, Clinic and Community Operations at Norwegian American Hospital. Gabrielle grew up in central Illinois and completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. She focused her master’s degree in pediatrics in a primary care setting and is certified through Pediatric Nursing Certification Board. In late 2018, she completed a doctoral degree in nursing (DNP).

Gabrielle has been at Norwegian American Hospital for six years and has significantly grown community programs. Right before the COVID-19 pandemic, she transitioned from the Director of Mobile Services to the Associate Vice President. Her knowledge as a Nurse Practitioner combined with her experience working in the community enabled her to quickly initiate Drive-Thru testing for the community. Additionally, she adjusted the ambulatory care clinics during the pandemic and maintained clinic volume compared to the previous year. 

Her passion for serving children and their families and her leadership skills has led to several award recognitions. In 2016, she was named a 40 under 40 Emerging Nurse Leader by the Illinois Nurses Association. Under her leadership, the mobile programs received several recognitions including Hospital Charitable Service Award finalist, Innovation Award from the Illinois Association of Free and Charitable Clinics, and the 2017 American Hospital Association Nova award.

Currently Gabrielle serves as co-chair of the Illinois Coalition of Mobile Healthcare Association as well as the steering committee of EverThrive Illinois.

Simile Miller, CIH, CHOP, CHSP, CHCM
Standards Application & Interpretation Specialist,
DNV GL Healthcare 

Simile Miller is a Standards Application & Interpretation Specialist for DNV GL Healthcare. Before moving into this role, Simile was a primary instructor and lead surveyor for DNV GL Healthcare.

Simile has over 25 years of experience in Quality and Safety Management in hospital organization. She began her career in facilities and safety management at a large healthcare system. During that time, she was responsible for the regulatory requirements of the environment of care/physical environment, to included accreditation requirements, ISO 9001 standards, state and local regulations. In addition, Simile helped to develop and implement the ISO 9001 quality management system in the sterile processing departments within the VA hospitals across the country.

Simile has a degree in Occupational Safety and Health and is a Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Health Safety Professional, Certified Hazardous Control Management, Certified Healthcare Operations Professional, along with several certifications in ISO.

Simile has worked with hundreds of hospitals implementing and teaching ISO 9001:2015, making her one of the leading experts for ISO 9001 implementation and interpretation in the healthcare environment.

Barry Smith (Moderator)

Barry Smith serves as the Director of Sales for DNV GL Healthcare, Inc. His team is responsible for the development of the North American healthcare business of DNV GL, which includes a growing portfolio of standards-driven accreditation and certification services. 

Barry has held various leadership and healthcare focused positions with WW Grainger, Inc. and the American Heart Association.  During his time at WW Grainger, Barry was instrumental in developing the Healthcare business in the Texas Medical Center.

Barry has more than 15 years of business development and leadership experience, with over a decade dedicated to healthcare.  He holds a BBA in Business Management from Stephen F. Austin State University.
