Michael Arena Ph.D is also the chief science officer and co-founder of the Connected Commons, a research consortium that brings together business and academic thought leaders to develop and apply organizational network solutions. Arena also continues to teach in Penn’s Masters in Organizational Dynamics program. Prior to joining Biola, he served as the vice president of talent and development at Amazon Web Services (AWS), where he leveraged network analysis to enable employee growth, organizational culture and innovation. Prior to joining Amazon, Arena was the Chief Talent Officer for General Motors Corporation where he was responsible for enterprise talent management, cultural transformation, leadership development, talent acquisition and people analytics. While at GM he launched GM2020, a grass roots initiative designed to enable employees to positively disrupt the way they work, which was highlighted in Fast Company and Fortune Magazine. This initiative and others are highlighted in his best-selling book, Adaptive Space: How GM and Other Companies are Positively Disrupting Themselves and Transforming into Agile Organizations. |
William E. Kirkwood, Ph.D Professor - Visiting University of Cincinnati

William E. Kirkwood, Ph.D is a healthcare executive with over 40 years of experience in hospital and health systems. He has served as a trusted advisor to executive and middle management groups utilizing an interplay of consulting and coaching skills. Kirkwood’s career encompasses administrative roles in health systems in Cincinnati and Boston. In addition to his own consulting practice, he served as Senior Consulting Director at Vizient, Inc. a top five healthcare consulting firm. In 1982, he graduated with an MHA from Xavier University while completing his doctoral studies at The Union Institute and University doctoral program in 2003. Kirkwood’s area of study was organizational behavior with his dissertation on the nurse’s calling which won the school’s President’s Award for Scholarship. He was inducted into the school’s Circle of Scholars. He co-authored the book Leading Health Care Improvement: A Personal and Organizational Journey. In 2015, Kirkwood began his relationship with the University of Cincinnati as an adjunct in the then Masters in Health Administration Program. Since the beginning of the 2023/24 academic year, he has served as Visiting Professor in the Executive Master in Health Administration Program. |
